This is a new nest as i have been following a nest close by for past 3-4 years and drive by on a daily basis.I first noticed the pair in early February and the nest was built on a utility pole with power lines in Dr.Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard on the side closest to the lake at Tamba Bay Park and across the road from the new Florida Cancer Center office. Not sure if eggs in nest but i have been given permission to photograph them from the roof of the cancer center building providing eye level viewing of the nest. They have been sitting on eggs for past 30 days, but no babies far as i can see as of May 7 th.Also observed male bringing fish to nest for female to eat as seen in photos. Was away for 2 weeks and on return still no babies in nest but few days later as observed from roof at Florida Cancer center there is one chick in nest first observed on 05/23/2014and observed father bring fish to nest and mother feed very young chick while father remained on nest. The chick is now around 3 weeks old and is thriving-wings initially speckled light brown and now changing to black and white as observed from roof of adjacent building at nest level.Have continued to monitor progress of the juvenile and it it almost the size of parents as of July 30 thand started flying and eating the fish brought by the male without being fed by mom and the nest has been empty with no sign of the juvenile or the parents for 72 hours as of 08/06/2024.Hopefully they will return next year!!
