Photos of this nest
There was limited activity at the nest this week. I noticed two osprey perched on the fire water tower east of the nest. They frequently sit there. Later coming back I noticed one sitting outside the nest and about 10-15 feet away. No sign of chicks this year although it was evident there was a nesting pair. Perhaps they were new parents or something catastrophic happened prior to my observing the nest. Hopeful for next year.
No birds at the nest but two were roosting on the support wires for the nearby fire water tower. They were sitting in the shade. Normally I see one under the tower, but today there were two. No evidence of chicks this year.
Two birds seen again today. Both in and out of the nest. One flew back with a fish and sat outside of the nest on a roost eating. Both were later seen sitting on steelwork nearby the nest. Still unsure about chicks but this is the biggest and deepest nest I observe.
One adult was seen today. It was on the edge of the nest. Little other activity. Still no sign of chicks. I took the opportunity to walk around under the nest. There were sticks scattered about but no sign of fish parts and no poop. I guess the continued rains keep everything washed up. I makes me wonder do they eat the whole fish or what else do they do with the left overs.
Both adults were present today, both initially in the nest when I arrived. One adult flew out of the nest to a perch about 15 feet away. The other adult remained in the nest and was observed arranging small sticks. No sign of chicks other than adult behavior suggesting there is something in the nest.
One adult sitting about 15 feet from the nest, elevated relative to nest and just sat looking at the nest and tending to feathers. No chicks visible as nest is very high. I hope the adult was off the nest due to growing chicks.
One adult observed flying to nest and then stayed on the nest for about 30 minutes. Did not appear to be eating. Was looking around a lot. Difficult angle from ground to see any chicks. None seen but nest is large and deep.
Two adults observed. One on nest. One sighted flying to nest with fish.
