Description
They have started nesting April 24, 2013 early afternoon. Have observed female moving into nest, sky-dancing, and mating. The pole is on corner of a road. Sadly their nesting spot is right above a huge transformer. Have contacted DEC in return the electric company in regards to the nest. Now waiting for a response to building a platform. Please keep your fingers crossed we can have the platform and continue to watch the beautiful birds finish their cycle safely.

Nesting Diaries

We are active again this year. Wohoo. On April 08, 2014 noticed that the nest that had been there all winter long had been distroyed once again. Everyone indeed was very disappointed as we were all eager and already on the watch for our wonders of the sky to return. On April 09, 2014 it was noticed that there was a new pole added to the road. In closer observering we all realized that the old pole had been cut and even bigger surprise is that the new pole meer feet away had a platform on the top. Electric company placed a new pole and a platform on the top of it. What the excitement we all experienced and was looking forward now more than ever for our friends to come home once again. On April 10, 2014 the best news ever possible ---- while driving by two wonders of the sky were spotted sitting on the platform as comfortable as could be. OUR FRIENDS just may have returned home for a new and much needed safe place to nest and bring their little ones into the world.

Day 8 Tonights check was a nice relaxing one. Lady of the power pole is holding her grounds like that tough woman no one wants to mess with lol. Saw that the nest material that I'd gathered yesterday and looking up well be darn. She or he has come down and gotten it back and it is once again in the top of the pole. Smart birds if you ask me. So bid my good nights as she was standing proud up there facing sun and just talking away in a very peaceful sound. Good girl for being so strong and having such courage.

Checking on the birds last night gave us again the glimpse of our female. Male not around but there continues to be attempts to bring material to the nest. This mornings check is still a great sign as they were both there this morning. We are all hoping that we will hear something today on a yes or no for the platform and better maybe lucky enough when if that be case.

This afternoon's check to clear left overs and branches gave me quite the surprise. One of the neighbors up the road stopped to chat a few and shed some light on the humans who destroyed/removed the nest. It was nice to finally find who but can't say I am impressed as to who it was. She stated the gentleman told her there was no egg in the nest so they were taking it down. Yeah okay thank you very mr electric company guy who took the nest down. There wasn't an egg? They have had courage to do it again and very very pleased to see they have managed to get material up there and keep going. Today while watching a few there was a huge bird at a distance and female began to flutter wings and squawk repeatedly. The male had just flown in so my thought was that it was he who had upset her. But looking around realized the big bird was now gone and she went about doing as she had been doing before. Good girl. They both seem very determined to try this again.

Last night's check of nest resulted see one in the nest and another a short distance away up in a tree eating.

This early morning in checking pole after the nights rain gave me hope that they have not given up. Female was flying into pole and male was just behind her carrying in material again. Sad to see the materials coming in but no retry at making a nest with the materials.

This mornings check of the nest has resulted in seeing both male and female sitting there on power pole. Male is continuing to bring branches and grass to nest but not at rate he was doing before. Check around nest does report another tail end of a fish. When checking on nest the female flew away and did not return. Another check this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. again just only the male is there and female no where to be found. Hoping the last check of the evening will give us the hope of seeing her again.

April 26th 2013 brought great findings. In walking around area of the new nest we found the fish tail of a mullet. So food is being brought to the nest. By whom not quite sure yet. The male and female still continue to bring in nesting materials on flights returning to the nest. They also appear to be quite comfortable in being observed and having humans to look at as well. We made light of a possible spat between the two being one was in the nest and other was perched a few power poles away. There is always a disagreement between male and female on how a new home should be built and so maybe yesterday that was situation. Later in evening do believe there was a mutual understanding somehow as both were back together in nest and seemed they were catching a bit of the sun that was going down as night was coming. Will be checking area around the pole today just for heck of it to see if possible fish leftovers can be found. They just may not have wanted to have dinner together.

April 27th 2013 Check of the nest at 2:30 p.m. turns out to be a very huge disappointment in mankind. So much for having faith in humans. Nest has been distroyed completely with all of the nesting tossed nicely on side of the road. Only positive sign is that the male and female are still there rebuilding their nest.

On April 24th coming home we spotted something odd on one of the power poles and turned into the side road to just look up and spot the osprey nest that the male had just started building.

On April 24th just 2 hours after spotting the male there was already a female who had landed in the nest. The male was fly around doing his courting of the beautiful female that was now in the nest. Not to long after the two were seen mating.

April 25th early morning found the male rebuilding the nest that had gotten pushed about with the nights rain and wind storm. The female was no where in sight or heard.

April 25th in the evening it was a welcomed site to once again see the osprey female sitting in nest. She did fly off the nest and returned with material. Not to long after that is when the male returned as well with material. Their stay in nest was short lived as they both were disturbed by another huge bird. In looking closer to the black bird which landed across the road in a tree when it came flying pass it did appear to be an immature bald eagle that had gone after the female while she was flying away from the nest.
