Nesting Diaries
Bird on nest and one perched a few feet away.
Again, no proof, but much activity and osprey action. Think we had success!
No proof, but I think this was a successful nest this year. Adults observed many times on or near nest.
Appears to be occupied but very hard to see activity inside nest.
I never saw babies, but this was an active nest all summer so I'm hoping there was a successful launch!
Saw male and female on bridge structure next to the nest. Pretty tricky to monitor this one and drive at the same time!
Observed the male's return to the nesting site. Noticed that nesting material was on the ground underneath the location where the nest is usually constructed.
2 Ospreys were on the nest and it looked like another nest was being started on the bridge but closer to the tollbooth.
Osprey was seen on the nest area at the bridge. Progress is slow but sure?
Sticks appearing on the bridge!
No sticks on the bridge and nothing seems to be happening. My guess is that these birds found the new platform by the pump pier at VIMS and didn't have to work so hard to keep their nest in place!
Finally! They are both here. Saw two different birds in the general area yesterday but was unable to determine gender. This morning the female was standing in the nest and the male was perched across from her eating his breakfast.
Adult seen on bridge several times today. Believe that this is the female of the pair. Seen in nest this evening around 6PM.
Single adult seen on bridge this afternoon around 4PM.
The breeding pair that occupied this nest in 2011 produced at least 1 fledgling.
