First sighting of two adults in this nest this morning.

Arrival date is approximate. Adults have been at the nest on and off for several months but are now seen more consistently. Eggs/chicks are hard to determine at these platform nests on top of utility polls.

I don't know what is happening this year but nest 175, 176 and 1579 all have no chicks. I'm still seeing occasional adults but after many years of producing at these nests that are pretty close together I'm seeing nothing.

These nests are so hard to tell what is going on until the chicks are bigger. An adult is almost always at the nest and what appears to be feeding motions have been observed. Hopefully it won't be long before the chicks make an appearance and can be counted.

Both adults have been seen at the nest fairly regularly since about February 3rd. One adult laying in the nest this morning. After this nest was destroyed last year when the pole was hit by lightning the utility company replaced it but also put one up directly across the road. The adults have been bringing sticks to the original location and using the one across the street for perching.

The nest bow was put back up on the new pole and the adults were visiting it and bringing sticks into July. Hopefully the will be back in January.

On the way home from work today I discovered that the pole that the nest bowl is attached to must have been hit by lightning. The pole was split in half six feet or so from the top. I have been wondering for a week or so if the chicks had all fledged because I could never see the full number of birds on the nest at the same time. Earlier in the afternoon when I went by I was pretty sure that the nest was empty and there were a number of birds flying around in the area. Hopefully none of the birds were at the nest when it was hit. If I learn more I'll post tomorrow.

Finally got a look at the chicks today. Looks like three this year! One adult was in the nest feeding the chicks and the other was hanging out on a wire below.

I's very hard to see into the bowl of the nest from the ground but it appears that as of 03/07/2013 that an adult is sitting on eggs.

Both adults have been making visits to the nest through December and January. Both were at the nest this morning. Have not yet seen any mating.

So sorry, thought I had made an entry in the summer about them all being gone. One bird showed up last week to check out the nest. Might be one of the adults getting ready for the new season,

Fish on a wire for breakfast this morning. The other adult and the two chicks wouldn't cooperate for a photo shoot this morning.

Finally was able to spot chicks yesterday. The aduls wasn't happy that I was below the nest. It was calling to another adult in the trees across the street and when I left there were three adults circling above.

Can't tell how many chicks yet. Parents have been seen feeding them but they have not moved to the edge of the nest to be observed yet.
