Nesting Diaries

The last week I have not observed any activity on this nest.

This nest seems to be doomed from the outset. The next door neighbor hates these birds and does anything to disturb them. However, the pair persisted, built a new nest and clearly the female laid eggs and incubated. There were definitely hatchlings there because I saw the parents flying in with fish. When they were quite young (I could not see them over the nest's rim) something must have happened. When questioning my neighbors they accused a new owner of the property for having repeatedly used a chainsaw near the tree.

I am certain there are hatchlings, I see the parents bringing in food. However, I have not seen the chicks. One adult is always on guard duty while the other is either fishing or on a tree nearby. See picture

I observed the nest frequently. The female was incubating and there appear to be hatchlings. I have not been able to see it (or them), however, one of the adults is guarding the nest at all times and I have perceived movement in the nest.

this pair has been observed every week , their arrival, their courtship, their refurbishing of the nest. We assume she laid her eggs but we do not know how many. Now the female appears to be incubating.

I saw general commotion around the nest and then there was no activity at all. My neighbors who are close to the nest have resented the birds violently and while I have no direct proof, I know they have been harassing them whenever possible.
