The South Coast of Massachusetts, from the western side of the Cape Cod Canal to the RI border, is home to a significant breeding population of osprey. Since 2004, Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary has been monitoring the annual breeding activity of 80 pairs of osprey on nearly 100 nesting platforms in Westport and Dartmouth, MA. The monitoring area is being expanded to cover a wider area in southern Bristol and Plymouth counties, including the new Great Neck Sanctuary in Wareham, MA.
